Tidal

He comes and goes like the ebb and flow of the tides, and
wraps her up in the currents.
He whispers stormy lullabies to her through the breezes that sweep
across the waves – He always brings deluges of rain, and she always
gets washed up on the shore. She has cold feet
and is leaking the oceans from her eyes, because
he’s always luring her but drifting just out of reach, and she
can’t keep afloat while everything else is sinking.
He is perfectly constant and about as erratic as hurricane surges.

They’re crashing and falling like shipwrecks and tumbling waves, because
there are no light houses when you’re so far out and in too deep.
They’re scarring the coastline because the fringes of their hearts
are so jagged and torn that they’re turning the ocean red, and
she is swept up in the beauty of it, but
he forgot to warn her about the sharks.

She is dissolving like salt in water and with every blow
they are eroding the continents.
She is locked in a rip tide and it’s pulling at her core, but she
won’t fight it because she thinks he’s in control of the currents.
He’s just another wave that’s dragging her out to sea, and he
can’t do anything about the tides either.
